Mirror Spider

Before the summer holidays of 2024 I said to my youngest, Christopher, that once he started back at school he could drive to school each day.  By then he'd have had a few more lessons, and once he'd driven to school I'd just take that car to work.  That car being our wee Corsa that we bought when our eldest was learning.  It was passed down through all 3 kids, each using it as they were learning and then just starting out after passing their test, before they then went out and bought their own first car.  Anyway, I digress.  One day I zoned in on the fact that each day I was rolling down the  passenger window to brush away the spider web that had formed over the wing mirror, so I could wipe the water off the mirror.  When I realised this was a daily thing, I made a joke that the spider must be sick fed up of me, but in truth I felt a little guilty, but I also felt intrigued, and impressed, because the little (I assumed little, or maybe hoped?!) mirror spider would rebuild every day.  The human lover in me automatically related everything to humans and I started thinking about the things that we rebuild, but for now, I was impressed with the spider's determination.  I photographed the rebuilt web each morning for 1 week.  On day 3, it was later in the morning before I photographed it because it was a Saturday, and we didn't go out until about 12pm.  The spider happened to be on the web at the time, dragging a caught fly from the web into the back of the mirror where it had made a home.  I had not hoped to actually ever see the spider.  1 day after I stopped photographing the web I got in the car and realised that it had not rebuilt.  I don't know for what reason, but I assume I had annoyed it so much, it had moved on.  Guilt again.
